Toivo Koivukoski comes to the Head Coach position at Nipissing Nordic from a lifetime spent in the sport of nordic skiing. He has 14 years of experience in elite ski racing at the Canadian National and NorAm levels, having represented the Ontario Team, Lakehead University and having served as Captain of the Carleton Varsity ski team, capping his racing career in 2003 with a gold medal in the team relay at the CCUNC Nationals.

 

Toivo is an NCCP-certified Competitive Coach, and has served as Director of the Carleton University Ski School, Director of Skier Development at North Bay Nordic, and as Head Coach of Nipissing Nordic's partnered Junior Racing Team, with his athletes earning numerous medals on the Ontario Cup Circuit.

Toivo's approach to ski racing is centered on long-term athlete development, with an emphasis on creating a supportive environment for athletes to put in the many years of training needed to perform at the highest level. There are no shortcuts to success in skiing, with incremental increases in training volume and intensity and the perfection of ski technique building skiers over time.
