Robert J Surtees Gymnasium
The Athletics complex features an 8800 square foot gymnasium covered by a Robbins bio-channel floating maple hardwood floor. The home of the "LAKERS" men's and women's varsity volleyball teams it also houses many of our fitness classes, intramural activities and special events. The gymnasium features 3 volleyball courts, 4 badminton courts and three basketball courts and can be divided in half with an automatic gym divider. The gymnasium seating capacity is currently 200.
International Squash Court
Our court features internationally certified Fiberesin wall panels which provide consistent rebound and the highest impact resistance. The court also features a 1/2" thick- 7'*21' tempered glass back wall that enhances the viewing aspects.
Fitness Centre
The RJS Student Athletics Centre has a 2100 square foot conditioning centre with 4 life fitness 9100 industrial treadmills, 3 life fitness 9100 cross trainers and 4 life cycle 9100 recumbent bikes complete with a cardio theatre. The centre also boasts a wide variety of Paramount weight machines and a large free weight section. A new addition to our equipment is 6 Lamond Race Masters spinning bikes.
Changerooms & Team Rooms
The RJS AThletic Centre features changerooms that provide our members with showers, bathrooms and day use of lockers for your convenience (Members can borrow a lock and towel from our control desk with your valid student card.)
Our teamrooms are available to players who participate on one of our varsity teams . Lockers are available to use during the sport season and changerooms include washrooms and shower areas.
Soccer Pitch
The Nipissing University soccer pitch built in 1996, is home to the men's and women's Lakers soccer teams during the fall months. The 110 yard * 70 yard pitch is located beside the Robert J Surtees Student Athletics Centre and has a seating capacity of 200. Additions made to the field include a practice field and a lighting system to accommodate evening games. The pitch is also utilized by Nipissing Intramurals for activities such as flag football and ultimate frisbee.
Memorial Gardens
North Bay Memorial Gardens Ice Skating Rink was founded in 1955. It is located just outside downtown North Bay and is minutes from Highway 11/17. Not only is it home to the Nipissing University Men’s Hockey Team, but it is also where the North Bay Skyhawks Junior “A” team play. Other services offered at the Gardens include adult and youth hockey tournaments, camps and clinics, skating lessons, figure skating, and public sessions.
